What is Integrated Energy Therapy?
Integrated Energy Therapy (IET) is a hands-on energy healing system that works with what practitioners call “cellular memory”—the concept that suppressed emotions and traumas from physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual experiences are stored at the cellular level of the body. The practice aims to detect and release congested energy from cellular memory, then clear associated energy blockages from the human energy field, freeing restricted life force and rebalancing body, mind, and spirit. IET is classified as a channeled energy therapy in which the practitioner serves as a vessel through which angelic energy is channeled for healing purposes.
The system employs a proprietary “cellular memory map” identifying nine primary body locations believed to store suppressed emotions. Practitioners use specific hand positions called Integration Points to energize, integrate, and clear these nine areas. After clearing blockages, practitioners channel what they term “empowerment imprints”—positive energies meant to replace the cleared emotional patterns. For example, the energy of innocence is said to replace guilt.
Origins & Lineage
Integrated Energy Therapy was created by Stevan J. Thayer, a former Bell Laboratories engineer who became an ordained interfaith minister, certified Reiki master, and founding director of The Center of Being, Inc. Thayer founded The Center of Being, Inc. in 1994 to teach and promote IET. The first IET class was taught in 1994, and since then the practice has spread throughout the United States and is offered in over 30 countries.
Thayer identifies as a channel for the Angel Ariel and authored Interview With an Angel, The Healing Angels of the Energy Field, and The Heart of Interview With an Angel. According to IET literature, Thayer received guidance from the angelic realm to develop this healing system while working as a Reiki Master in the early-to-mid 1990s, seeking methods to address energy blockages he encountered in his practice.
The system’s name reflects its stated mission: integrating the pain of the past into the power of the present to bring about future wellness. Since 1994 when Stevan began teaching IET, practitioners have spread the modality globally, with IET students now in 75 countries including Australia, Croatia, Hungary, Denmark, Guatemala, Nepal, Slovenia, Sweden, and Uzbekistan.
How It’s Practiced
An IET session typically involves the recipient lying fully clothed on a massage table while the practitioner works through a standardized protocol. The practitioner, having undergone attunements to channel angelic energy, begins by joining their “heartlink” to the Nine Healing Angels of the Energy Field, then transmits healing energy at each of the core cellular memory areas.
The nine cellular memory areas correspond to specific body regions and emotions. Practitioners use gentle touch or hands hovering slightly above the body at designated Integration Points. These techniques are based on a unique cellular memory map in which 9 primary locations are identified as storage areas for suppressed emotion. Although these points have not been identified by any traditional acupressure systems, IET proponents claim they support clearing of energy blocks resulting from deeply suppressed emotions in the cells of the body.
Practitioners progress through three certification levels—Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced—each unlocking different techniques and working with different aspects of what IET terms the “12-Strand Spiritual DNA.” The Basic level focuses on the nine cellular memory areas. Intermediate level introduces methods to clear past-life karma and interpret blockages in the energy field. Advanced level works with soul purpose activation.
Integrated Energy Therapy Today
IET is primarily encountered through a formalized training structure managed by The Center of Being, Inc. The organization maintains a certification program requiring completion of progressive training levels, case studies, written exams, and demonstration of technique proficiency. Continuing education and annual membership maintain certification status.
Sessions are offered by individual certified practitioners, often integrated into holistic wellness centers, massage therapy practices, or alongside other energy modalities like Reiki. Training workshops are conducted by Master Instructors certified directly through The Center of Being’s lineage. The practice has expanded into specialized applications, including IET for animals (particularly cats, dogs, and horses) with adapted cellular memory maps.
While IET has grown to thousands of practitioners globally, it remains a relatively niche modality within the broader landscape of energy healing. Most people discover IET through word-of-mouth referrals, holistic health directories, or while exploring complementary approaches to conventional therapy.
Common Misconceptions
IET is not scientifically validated. The concepts of cellular memory storing emotions, angelic energy channels, and 12-strand spiritual DNA do not align with established biology, neuroscience, or physics. While recipients may report subjective experiences of relaxation or emotional release—common to many hands-on therapeutic contexts—these outcomes have not been demonstrated through controlled clinical trials.
IET is not acupressure, despite using specific body points. The nine integration points were reportedly channeled rather than derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine or other historical bodywork systems. IET is distinct from Reiki, though many practitioners train in both; IET uses its own attunement process, hand positions, and conceptual framework centered on angelic collaboration.
The practice should not be confused with psychotherapy or considered a replacement for mental health treatment, trauma therapy, or medical care. While some practitioners may have backgrounds in licensed healthcare fields, IET itself is an unregulated spiritual practice without clinical licensing requirements.
How to Begin
Those curious about what Integrated Energy Therapy feels like can book a session with a certified IET practitioner through The Center of Being’s practitioner directory or local holistic wellness centers. Sessions typically last 60-90 minutes and are similar in format to massage therapy.
For those interested in learning IET techniques, the Basic level training is a two-day workshop requiring no previous energy healing experience. The training includes an attunement (an energetic initiation process), instruction in the nine cellular memory areas and Integration Points, and practice sessions. Training is standardized globally and taught only by authorized IET Master Instructors.
Stevan Thayer’s books, particularly Interview With an Angel and The Healing Angels of the Energy Field, provide the theological and procedural foundations of the practice. These texts outline the angelic communications that informed IET’s development and describe the role of each of the Nine Healing Angels.
As with any complementary modality, approach IET as a contemplative or spiritual practice rather than medical intervention, and maintain ongoing relationships with licensed healthcare providers for physical and mental health concerns.
